Retrieve Icons From Executable

description

Support the icon being retrieved from the executable being launched. Find a way to store this information in the configuration file in a human-readable fashion (i.e. C:\AppFolder\App.exe;ResourceIndex;IconIndex)

For the most part this functionality is now done. However the images are not displaying in a nice resolution. Any ideas?

As far as I can tell, Icon.ExtractAssociatedIcon doesn't support Vista/Windows 7 large icons. It also adds overlays (shortcut arrow/handle that is in bottom left).

I've seen several implementations that use Windows API to accomplish this, but none of them have been GPL compatible to date. I've reached out to two different sample authors so far to see if they will allow us a license to their code under GPL v2/v3 - but so far none have responded.

I'll let you know if one of them does.

These are the authors I attempted reached out to:

I have a local version that is pulling in high resolution icons - I just have to wait for the author of the icon library to license it under the GPL.

I did find a GPL v3 alternative to the second link and am using it - but that is just to extract the icon executable/dll name and the position. We still need something like the first link to extract the icon. I'm waiting on the author of the first link to contact me back before I commit the work.
